Victoria Wood was born on the 19th May 1953 at the Holyrood Maternity Home, Bury Old Road, she was the youngest of four children to be born to Helen (Nellie) and Stanley Wood. Victoria's first home was a terraced house on Tottington Road, her school life started at Elton Primary, however in 1958 her parents moved house and Victoria relocated to Fairfield County Primary School on Rochdale Old Road. In 1958 the family moved to a large rambling house at Birtle Edge which was a former childrens holiday home for less privileged children. In September 1964 Victoria entered Bury Grammar School for Girls. It is well documented that Victoria struggled whilst at Bury Grammar, however in the summer of 1968 her outlook changed immeasurably as she joined the Rochdale Youth Theatre Workshop.
She secured a place at Birmingham University and graduated in 1974, she won a place on the talent show New Faces, her career went from strength to strength and she went on to write, appear in and direct some of the most iconic comedy and drama shows of our time.
