Bury’s towns and villages each have their own unique character and offer great days out.
Bury is home to some of the area’s most popular visitor attractions which include Bury’s Famous Market and the historic East Lancashire Steam Railway. The Rock and Millgate offer excellent shopping and leisure activities and the town is packed with places to eat and drink.
In the north, Ramsbottom, Daily Telegraph runner up ‘High Street of the Year 2013’, is located on the edge of the West Pennine Moors and on the East Lancashire Railway route through the Irwell Valley. Offering a blend of both contemporary and traditional in spectacular surroundings, along with an array of independent retailers, its very own Chocolate Festival and award winning restaurants and cafes.
Just a few miles away you will reach Tottington. On the edge of the countryside this small town is home to plenty of local services and shops selling local produce.
Lying between Bury and Bolton you will find Radcliffe. Easily reached by Metrolink, this busy town centre offers plenty independent shopping as well as the newly refurbished Market. The historic Radcliffe Tower and the Church of St Mary. show the town’s rich heritage and nearby you can discover impressive artworks on the Irwell Sculpture Trail.
In the south of the borough is Whitefield which is fast becoming a foodie mecca with a growing selection of restaurants, cafes and wine bars including the renowned confectioners Slattery’s. While Prestwich, known locally as the “Village” lies just 15 minutes from Manchester. The town has a busy shopping centre, quirky independents and plenty of open green space with Prestwich Forest Park and Heaton Park, just on the doorstep.
