The rich history of Bury and the surrounding area is represented through the Collection’s and displays of Bury Art Museum, The Fusilier Museum and Bury Transport Museum.
Bury Art Museum is internationally recognised for its contemporary art programmes linking Bury to latest developments from Barcelona to Bejing and Berlin. Opened in 1907 its collections feature some of the great masters from the Victorian era including Turner and Constable. The museum also contains some of the most unique objects in the area.
With a diverse and interesting array of artefacts it offers thematic displays that cover a variety of topics with a focus on local and social history.
The Fusilier Museum is home to the collections of the XX Lancashire Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Together they record over 300 years of history and heritage of the people who served in the regiments. The Museum is also home to Bury Tourist Information Centre, Regimental Headquarters for Lancashire and the excellent cafe: Delicious at the Fusiliers.
Bury Transport Museum brings the history of Bury transport to life. Through interactive displays, vintage vehicle exhibits and original artefacts explore the stories of people’s lives and jobs in the early 20th Century.
As well as enjoying a rich and varied heritage Bury also offers a wide range of cultural activities, home to two fantastic visual arts venues: Bury Art Museum and Bury Sculpture Centre
Bury Art Museum is home to the wonderful Wrigley Collection which includes work by J M W Turner and John Constable. Showcasing the best of international and local art and with the addition of Bury Art Shop and Barney's Coffee Shop Bury Art Museum can truly offer something for all interests. The collections and exhibitions are supported by a range of activities and events which allow visitors to explore and enjoy the Gallery and Museum further. All housed in a distinctive Edwardian building that is a work of art in itself.
Bury Sculpture Centre, adjacent to Bury Art Museum, has been developed as a remarkable modern white, airy space with beautifully restored parquet floors and Victorian architectural features. The inspirational Sculpture Centre hosts a number of international festivals, bringing the best in international art to local audiences and cultural tourists alike.
